Alan Turing's 100th Birthday

It's been a long, loooooong time since I've researched WWII, so I don't remember much about Alan Turing, but I do remember that he was a really important codebreaker for the British during the war, and he helped crack the German Enigma Machine, which was like, the best coding device ever.
So all in all, a really smart and cool bro.
And today's his 100th birthday, so Google decided to commemorate it by creating this genius interactive doodle that you can learn to solve by watching the following video here!

October 31

I failed. I totally forgot about this on the actual day it happened, which was really pathetic on my part, and since it's been over two weeks, you probably already know of this already, but:
On Oct. 31, 2011:
  1. I celebrated an amazing awesome fun Halloween.
  2. The world's population officially increased to seven billion people.
Coo-ool!

TAK: The Hideous New Girl Part One

Episode 36 of the fantastic TV show Invader ZIM, but this is the speeded-up version, which is just as funny as the original.
Everyone's voice sounds like they just inhaled a tank of helium :D

Marie Curie

Today is Marie Curie's 144th birthday!
She is famously know for her research on radioactivity with her husband, Pierre Curie.
She was born as Maria Salomea SkÅ‚odowska on November 7 (today), 1867 in Warsaw, Poland. She died on July 4, 1934 in Haute-Savoie, France due to, ironically, too much exposure to radiation.

Gas Leak

Our school had an evacuation today!! It was because there was apparently a gas leak near our school.
660 News (http://www.660news.com/news/local/article/287197--northwest-schools-evacuated-due-to-gas-leak) says:
More then 1400 students are safe and uninjured after being evacuated from three northwest schools, late Tuesday morning.
Fire crews were called to an area near Queen Elizabeth Elementary, Junior and Senior high schools around 11:30 a.m. after receiving a call about a possible gas leak.
Elementary students were taken to Hillhurst community centre, while Junior High and High School students were taken to Crescent Heights High School.
Fire officials say someone digging in the area of 5th Avenue and 18th Street NW struck a 3-inch natural gas line.
There were no injures and the Calgary Fire Department's Brian Brian McAsey tells 660News it's not believed students were ever in any dancer, and the evacuation was simply done as a precaution.
Which is totally accurate, except for the fact that the Junior High and High School people were actually also taken to the community centre (and I should know, because I was one of them!).
You can also view another (different) article here: http://calgary.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20111011/CGY_gas_leak_hillhurst_111011/20111011/?hub=CalgaryHome
Isn't it cool that we were on the news? :)

Pancake Creations

Hi there! I was looking for a pancake picture to put in my post 'How to Make Pancakes!' on Google, and I came across a lot of creative pancakes. So here they are!

This one's pretty easy to make.

Mini pancakes!
ROARRR!!!

Looks like my previous profile picture!
TOO COOL!!!

Whoa!
Made by the same guy that did the giraffe one.
Santa!

Cool!
Mickey Mouse pancakes! I have eaten one of these - they're not hard to make.
Not exactly a creative creation, but still cool, right???

AWW!!! I just had to put that in.
If you want to see tons more, go to http://www.jimspancakes.com/. They are very, very spectacular.

National Ice Cream Day/Month

Today is National Ice Cream Day for the USA!!! Apparently it's on every third Sunday of July.
And July is National Ice Cream Month!!!
Yay!
To see fun facts, and more about Ice Cream Day, read this fun article:
http://www.myplainview.com/news/article_c0e5a72e-b00a-11e0-9666-001cc4c002e0.html
And be sure to eat some!
I ate a soy-milk ice cream today. It tasted even better than actual ice cream, in my opinion.
Soy-milk tastes good as pretty much anything. Did you know they also make soy yogurt? It's called soygurt. Or soyogurt. Or yofu. Pretty funky names!

Directions At The North Pole

Did you know that if you stand at the North Pole, there is only one way to go: South?
If you stand at the very top of the earth, it is not possible to go North, because you are already at the northernmost point of the earth. You can't go East or West either, because since the pole is only a point you'd walk right off earth, and there's no direction in space technically you won't be going anywhere. So the only direction left is Down (a.k.a. South). Once you've stepped (even if it's a milimetre) closer to South you'd be able to go East or West.
Basically whenever you go in a direction you're going in a circle (if you walk in a straight line from the south pole to the north pole, that's half a circle. Then if you go back to the south pole it'll be a full circle. Get it?). It's just that some of the circles are bigger than others. Eg. If you are one meter away from the north pole and go from East to West your circle will be very small since you're only one meter away. By contrast, if you go from East to West on the Equator, your circle will be huge.
Hope that made sense. It helps if you have a picture to look at while you're reading this. The same applies to the South Pole.
